A Little Different

This week is going to be a little different. Most of us aren't going to sew anything new for the shop, and if we do, it won't show up this week. Maybe photos of new items, but most likely not any of the listings.

Why?
Well, it's 6 weeks and less than a day until Christmas. We know things aren't going to slow down at all, and we all have a lot to do to get ready for the holiday season. To be perfectly honest, to know that Thanksgiving is next week, and that Christmas is 42 days and less than 4 hours away scares me. What happened to fall?
For that matter, what happened to the summer,
Or the spring,
Or the winter before?

Time really does fly.
Maybe not when you're 5, or even 10. But once you start to take on the responsibilities of the adult world, things change quickly. And there is no going back.

Starting down a rabbit trail...
I'm good at those. : )

We will be listing 2 new items this week for sure; anything more than that is a bonus.

I have to finish, photograph, and submit the 2nd part to the D.W. Fashion Design Challenge this Friday. I have a custom piece that I have been working on for some time that I would really like to finish (and my customer would love to have to use!), I have a whole box of sewing jobs for the family to do, and lots of other sewing stuff. Catching up on school and doing normal things add up to a very busy week.
But here's the good part - by Friday, I have to have a 2nd Fall Line outfit done. The Holiday Scene Stealer is so close, it's crazy. There would be nothing to stop the Fall Line from being revealed and released in our shop the end of next week. Just in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In retrospect, it's not that bad, as far as timing goes. : )

Wednesday we'll share a new slouch jacket listing...how about orange and white to make your day brighter?

Robyn has been such a blessing to us here - we will be photographing more pj's soon thanks to the shirts she finished recently!

And remember the Modern Day Princess we've mentioned?
Here's another update, photo style.

A side note:
Friday was crazy. We never intended to skip posting. Sorry. : (

More to come Wednesday!

  1. Hey! I just found your blog and I am so inspired because I'm a home school teen also! :D This is a super random question, but what writing program do you use? I am trying to get better and grow in my writing, but so far it has been a struggle. Any tips would be great! (:

    1. Hi Katelyn! We're glad you found us. =)
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by writing program, but I assume that you mean like a class or subject used to improve our writing skills. To be perfectly honest, we've never used one. Both Elisa and I have been "grammar queens" for a long time, and God has blessed us with the gift writing. I wanted to take some sort of creative writing class as an elective this year, but we couldn't find anything that wasn't hundreds of dollars to join.
While I can't help you with a program, I can suggest a few tips.
If it's stories that you like to write most, then always, always stick with what you know. Take something that you have experienced, and write it up like it is, or put a twist on it and make some fictional character go through it. Elisa and I are writing a book like that, just for us to enjoy, practice, and someday give to our children to read.
      Practice, practice, practice.
Read really solid books - their grammar, structure, and use of a broad vocabulary will help you immensely. Louisa May Alcott is one of my go-to authors on that sort of thing. Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock stories have more great examples of truly amazing writing.
Even if writing isn't a strong suit of yours, you can definitely fool the world if you just find your niche, and work it. =D
      Good luck!!!

      1. Find your writing passion (best place to practice and study).
      2. Practice a single "scene" or report in different perspectives - find your unique view.
      3. Always, if possible, re-read, edit, leave it alone for a day, and come back to it. The more time you spend on a piece (taking proper breaks and such) the more likely you are to end up with something you will be very proud of.
      4. Get a second opinion. Family and close friends are great, but they will also hurt you more when they critique you. Find someone you don't know as well. Not only will they be able to read it with a more open mind and looser tongue, but also they will not hurt you as much. Just don't pick the person who has no idea what you'd be asking them to be doing. :P

      God Bless,
      Paige
